News Archive 2007 - 2005
The first phase of the GMDB Global Database project is almost complete. I have just added a Disneyland guidemap from August 2005 and a Disney Cruise Line Castaway Cay map. These are are just 2/3 of my current plans to expand the database, however. I still have a Disney's California Adventure map to add to the Global Database.
As you obviously now know, the new Global Database page is open. To get to it, just go to the Database page and click on the Global Database button. This will take you to a page similar to the main Database, only consisting of Disney parks from around the world. Hopefully with your help, we can add even more parks to the list, including Disneyland Resort Paris and the Tokyo Disneyland Resort.
Wow, it's been a long time, eh? I better blow the dust off of the Latest News section. Anyways, I have some good news for you guys. You can expect some new gudiemaps on the database in the very near future. What park you ask? Perhaps Magic Kingdom? Epcot? The Studios or Animal Kingdom? If you guessed those, you'd be wrong. As I said in the Database section a while back, I will be expanding to cover the far reaches of the Walt Disney theme park empire... So, what maps should you expect to see?
I'm talking about the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Thanks to the kindess of our biggest contributor, Freddy M., we will have brand new Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure maps from just a few days ago. The Disneyland map features the recently re-opened Space Mountain and the California Adventure has the recently opened Turtle Talk with Crush. Again, thanks to Freddy M., expect to see these gudiemaps up shortly.
Yep, once again, instead of scanning guidemaps and up adding them to the database, I've redesigned the site. Why, you ask? Because I was bored, of course. Anyways, I hope you like the new design, I know I do. I love the way the forums turned out, and I made this design to match it better.
What else is new with the site? On the side, I've added a Syndicate section. It has links to the XML RSS Feed as well as a new button to add the feed to your My Yahoo! page. That way, every time you go to your My Yahoo! page, you can check and see the latest updates to the site. Also, I've added the Contact and Item Submission page. The page lists all of the ways to contact me, as well as well as a guideline of how to prepare your item for submission.
Yes, it is true. I have posted another guidemap to the Guidemap Database. Finally. The guidemap is the Disney-MGM Studios from May 2005, with Lights, Motors, Action! on the cover. Also, if you'll notice the Coming Soon teaser, I'll be doing the Animal Kingdom May 2005 map next.
For those of you who noticed, the site was on and off earlier today. The forums were offline for a good while and the site was inaccessible for a bit. This was do to me doing domain switching with my host. My host, A Small Orange, is incredible and I just thought they should deserve some recognition.
So, expect some more maps up within the near future. Hopefully some of you guys can contribute some things to the database. Updates will go up a lot faster with the less work I have to do. Hehe.
No, you're ears are not playing tricks on you. I made an addition to the database! The first in about 3 weeks, actually. It's not much, just some tickets, but at least it's something. I will be gone July 23-27 to Walt Disney World, so hopefully that trip will put me in the mood to scan in more maps and upload them to the site. Though, I should warn you, school starts mid-August, so I won't have much time before then. Damn teahcers don't understand the importance of Disney World guidemaps.
For the month of July, there has been a significant drop in the visitors here. It was steadily climbing up to about 66,000 hits in June, and then dropped off to 9,000 three weeks into July. Visitors haven't been that scarce since March, before the site even opened. It's also apparent in the Forums, where new posts are extremely few and far between. Hopefully I'll find it in me to do some more work for the site, which (I hope) will make everyone happy and drive the hits through the roof.
In keeping with the recent advancements of the Guidemap Database, I have decided to create an RSS Feed with updates of the site. An RSS Feed is a way to let you know there have been updates to the site. All you have to do is put the RSS address into an RSS Reader and it will alert you when I update the Guidemap Database. The feed will include the last 5 Database Additions and Site News updates.
The first updates on the RSS Feed are this article, and some tickets I just added to the database: a Pleasure Island ticket from 2000 and two 25th Anniversary tickets from 1997, featuring Lumiere and Tinkerbell. I hope you enjoy the new service!
So, without furhter ado, here is the Feed: http://wdwguidemaps.com/rss.xml
As you may have noticed, the forums have been down for the past few days. That's because the old forum software, phpBB, somehow got courrupted and, unfortuneatly, everything was lost. All of the posts and members, so you will have to re-register.
But on a good note, I've installed Invision Power Board, which is a much mroe powerful and professional bulletin board system. I am currently about half way through creating a GMDB matching skin. It still need some work, mainly images, which I will be doing shortly.
I hope you enjoy the new forums!
The Epcot Database is officially open! That's right folks, even though there is an amazing grand total of ONE map on the Epcot database as of now, expect more soon. In fact, I might have one on later today, which could have gone by, by the time you read this. I only have 4 Magic Kingdom maps left to scan and upload, so expect them up soon as well.
I have some other good news for the site. You should expect a lot more frequent additions because I'm looking at 3 straight months of free time, without school. That means there might be daily additions, but don't count on that; I'm really lazy. But either way, it won't be long before the Disney-MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom are open! Then it'll be the Water Parks, Downtown Disney, and maybe some other things, like the Times Guide or Transportation Guidemaps. Who knows, after I finish Walt Disney World, I might start on Disneyland, that is, if anyone's willing to contribute.
The new design is here! And well ahead of schedule, I might add. I've been working feverishly to get the new design completed. Also, the forums underwent a resdesign, to match the site. I really hope you like it!
There aren't any new maps, but there are some new spots in the Database for Downtown Disney and Water Parks. I only have 3 more Magic Kingdom maps to scan, and one to finish stitching, and then it's on to Epcot! I should warn you that I will be gone all day Wednesday, here again almost all day Thursday, but then I'll be going to Walt Disney World Friday through Wednesday.
As the Guidemap Databasebase continues to grow, I have decided to show off a bit more on the web site. How will I be showing off? Well, a new design for the site is currently in the works. The design will show my true potential (maybe not even my full potential, as that would blow your mind ;) ) in not only graphics, but in nice, simple, easey to navigate, and clean design. The release of the new design is not known at this time, but as I continue work on it, I will release more details.
Conversely, I do have something for you to look forward to in the near future. I only have 4 more Magic Kingdom maps to scan in! Granted, I'll still have to stich them and such, but they shouldn't be too much longer. But please note that I'm going to Walt Disney World May 21-25, so no work will be done then, except for the gathering of brand new maps that should be on the site short after!
The Walt Disney World Guidemap Database is now open! Please feel free to browse our selection of guidemaps from past and present. Currently, we have part of the Magic Kingdom Database open, along with part of the Miscellaneous section. Expect to see Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, and the rest of our sections to open in the future. At the moment, we only have a few maps in the database, but we will be adding more all the time, so check back often for new maps! If you have any questions, comments, or a guidemap you want listed on the database, feel free to send and e-mail to us at theonevader@gmail.com.
